The problem of acid rain can be solved. But first, one should be aware about acid rain, its origin and its adverse effects to the environment.
Rainfall that becomes acidified turns to acid rain. Air pollution is responsible for this. Nitrogen and sulphur oxides are present in the dirty atmosphere. The pollutants come from factories and vehicles. Smoke reacts with the moisture in the air, thus forming acid rain.
Because of acid rain, infrastructures tend to deteriorate quickly. And the ecosystem is damaged too, as it could result to an unbalanced ecosystem by decreasing food supply, as well as cause mutations and in extreme cases, death.
One solution is to use fuel that burns more cleanly or to find an efficient means to burn coal. This would greatly decrease the likelihood of acid rain developing in the atmosphere.
With regards to power plants, the main producers of acid rain;
attaching ‘scrubbers’ – devices that decrease the amount of sulphur produced in the smoke by a total of 90 - 95% -- may do the trick by having them installed in the plant’s chimneys. They should also constantly clean and inspect pipes, chimneys and every emission equipment. Check out a solid state drive if your interested in technology. |
